Blog is an Ugly Word

  Posted by Picasa
Here's my confession: I hate the word BLOG. It must be the ugliest word I've ever heard. It's an onomatopoeia: it's the sound my dog makes (see him up there?) when he yanks too hard on the leash, or the sound I make when the doctor's tongue depressor goes way the heck down my throat. BLOG.

Yet here I am, blogging. Couldn't they give it some other title? It seems to have popularity just because it's one of those portmanteau words, a supposedly clever combination of two other words, like smog. Combining smoke with fog, which comes on little cat feet. But smog isn't ugly somehow, and blog is. Is it just my imagination? Does anyone else find this word offensive? And it's ubiquitous! Everyone is debating. Should I blog? Do blogs help sales? What sorts of things do you write in your blog? Does this blog make me look fat?

In any case, this is a tangent, a rant about words, and it's interrupting the flow of my July interviews. Nothing's worse than a complaint that goes on too long. Makes you want to BLOG, doesn't it?

I've resisted the urge to blog (you're right. An ugly word). I think I'll post comments instead.

I resisted for a long time, but once I started, it was . . . FUN!

Comments are back!

Yes! I didn't even know they were gone. Some goblin made them disappear, but Deb Baker pointed out that there was nowhere to comment, and now I have summoned them back.

Julia: I delayed starting to read your book because I imagined myself hearing you speak to me as the cute little niece that you have always been. Instead, I became totally engrossed in the story. I read the book in a record three days. For me that is speed reading.
I especially liked the way you followed the characters through to the end and resolved their lives. I hate when an author leaves the rest of the story up to my imagination.
Thanks for a great read. I am so very proud of you. I'm sure Aunt Barb is also smiling at you.
Keep up the great story telling in the tradition of our great leader Grampa Rohaly.
Love,
Uncle Joe

Hey! Do you say "BLOG" like that in front of the children? At least it's something they won't get in trouble for at school.

Do you find that the BLOG gives you freedom to be/say whatever you want to be/say?

Hey, Chris R! What do you micromanage? I think the blogs are a nice vehicle for expression, yes, despite their unfortunate name. BLOG.
