Farewell, My Lovely Summer

After a short but eventful summer, I am heading back to work today. These times of transition are always a bit disorienting, but as I get older and more philosophical, I realize that one can never be entirely oriented. :)

I'll focus on this picture when things get hectic; I find it endlessly serene.

Well, at least now that you're a teacher rather than a student, you get paid for being at school! I still feel a little residual angst this time of year. When I was a kid I hated the end of summer. I shouldn't say that to a teacher but, heck, my dad was a teacher and I don't think he liked going back either. He loved the teaching part but all the other job part he hated.

Yes, Eric--I think we're sort of conditioned to think that way. This year, though, it wasn't as painful somehow. I think I need a new intellectual challenge, so here I go. :)

But yeah, fall is a wistful time, isn't it?

Julia, do you have time to participate in some blog critiques over at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/blogbooktours ? Starting in September? You're such a good tour host and I love the way you change your colors all the time. You'd make a good critic for other bloggers. I want you to join the group anyway... so there! :)
