Mysterious Phenomena

My dad, who gets all sorts of cool e-mail from sources unknown, forwarded me some pictures of a recent freak of nature on the Sydney coast: foam, light as the froth on your cappucino, formed by churning water and a combination of salt and impurities in its depths, created an interesting dilemma for those who wanted to swim or surf.

Just when you thought you'd seen everything Nature had to offer . . .

There's actually quite an interesting book called, UNIVERSAL FOAM, by Sidney Perkowitz. He's a physicist, but the book is written so those of us who aren't can understand it. He talks about foam all around us...yes, the kind in your gourmet coffee, as well as sea foam, and how it affects the world. You wouldn't think that foam could hold that much interest, but this is a great book!

Well, thanks, Mary Beth! I find that fact very interesting, actually. I may have to look up the book over Christmas. How did you happen to come across it?

My son is a high school senior taking Physics AP...he wants to go into biomedical engineering. I was looking for something unusual for him, he didn't read it, and since I read almost anything, I did! As I write I just finished Sarah Dunant's TRANSGRESSIONS. Having read and enjoyed her two historical novels, this was very different and disturbing, particularly from a female point of view. Like the main character, I live in a big old house...I'm just glad that I am not alone. The critics described this book as a thriller, chilling and terrifying. Too much for me, but I did finish it.

Wow. AP Physics--that is a good gene pool you have passed on.

I don't think I could read any books about horror and a big old house, and I live in a little old house that is full of children and animals. :)
