A Universal Thoughtlessness?

Here's a thought for those people who won't let me off the elevator (or the El, or out of the store) because they're so hell-bent on getting in: I have to leave before you can enter, so why not scoot aside for five seconds?

Just a thought, as I was once again trapped against the wall by the lemmings who chanted "Inward!"

When I was going to school in New Yor City I had to exit the subway at one of the first Manhattan stops in the morning and one of the first Brooklyn stops going home. The train and platforrms were always jammed. I soon learned to take up a position right beside the door upon boarding and refuse to move. If I moved toward the middle of the car there was no chance of managing to push my way out at the appropriate stop before the doors closed.

And yet I can't help but say again, "What's up with that?" I understand that some people are on automatic, but there are folks like us, Eric, who move aside to let people out. Are we just special human beings? :)

I couldn't agree more. Everyone is in such a rush and common sense goes right out the window. Your previous post mentioned F. Scott Fitgerald. I will click over and check it out...

Hurrah! That's three of us in the politeness club (or is it the common sense club?)
